First Lady Sajidha Mohamed graced the opening ceremony of the Bank of Maldives (BML) Raajje Junior Netball Championship 2026, held at the Indoor Hall of the Maldives Centre for Social Education (MCSE).
During the ceremony, the First Lady signed the official championship ball and was introduced to players and officials from the two teams contesting the opening match.
The opening match was played between Huravee School and Jamaluddin School, with Huravee School securing a 23–3 victory after four seven-minute quarters. Following the match, the First Lady presented the Queen of the Match award to Aminath Thugaa of Huravee School.
Organised by the Netball Association of Maldives to promote netball across the country, the championship was previously known as the Inter-School Netball Tournament. This year's edition features two age categories, with 14 teams competing in the Under-15 category and 11 teams in the Under-17 category.
Also in attendance at the ceremony were the Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Fitness, Abdulla Rafiu, the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Bank of Maldives, Mohamed Shareef, and officials of Netball Association of Maldives.
