Chief Justice Ahmed Muthasim Adnan has honourably retired from his position, marking a historic first in the Maldives, where all previous Chief Justices were removed from office.
Muthasim submitted his retirement request in May, which was subsequently approved following a decision by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC). The Supreme Court expressed its gratitude for his valuable contributions to the Maldivian judiciary during his tenure.
Appointed Chief Justice in 2019, Muthasim previously served as a Supreme Court Justice from 2010 to 2014. His retirement marks the close of a significant chapter in Maldivian judicial history.
The JSC has appointed Justice Abdullah Hameed as the acting Chief Justice. Justice Hameed will assume all duties of the Chief Justice until a permanent appointment is made. Key responsibilities include presiding over the Judges’ Assembly, setting its agenda, and convening emergency sessions.
