Nazima Ali, the Chief Executive Officer of Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital (KRH), has stated that the completion of the building included in Phase 2 of the hospital’s development will fully resolve space constraints and establish services that are currently unavailable.
CEO Nazima revealed this in a summary message regarding the services currently provided by KRH and the progress made over the past two years.
In her message, Nazima noted that work is being carried out in two phases to upgrade KRH to tertiary-level standards.
“In that regard, the components included in Phase 1 are now, so to speak, almost complete. God willing, work on three sub-specialties and the ER extension has commenced and is underway,” Nazima said.
Nazima stated that under this project, the design work for the buildings included in Phase 2 is currently in progress. She also mentioned that physical work on the site is expected to begin by the end of this coming February.
“After moving to this building, all current space constraints will be resolved. Issues in the laboratory, the X-ray department, a psychiatric ward, an isolation ward—God willing, all services currently unavailable at KRH will be fully established with the new building,” Nazima said.
She further noted that the new building would provide a significant solution to the current necessity of transferring patients to Malé for further treatment.
“At the same time, one of the most significant points to note is the constant need to send patients to Malé for further treatment; we believe this will be greatly addressed. Regardless of the circumstances, as we now have a cardiologist, Cath Lab services will begin once the new building is available,” Nazima said.
Nazima highlighted that many doctors currently working at KRH are abroad studying to specialize in various fields. She added that the necessary space and facilities are being prepared to be ready by the time these doctors return to service.
“Many of our doctors have gone abroad to pursue sub-specialties. Work is currently underway to prepare their work environments, wards, and the necessary setups by the time they complete their studies and return,” Nazima said.
“Therefore, I believe that for the residents of the three atolls who visit KRH for services, God willing, very high-quality services will be provided within the next two years,” Nazima concluded.Nazima also noted that 12 health centers in Haa Dhaalu Atoll are currently being managed under KRH. She stated that efforts are underway to upgrade the health centers in Hanimaadhoo, Nolhivaranfaru, Nolhivaram, and Makunudhoo by increasing the number of doctors and recruiting other technical staff, while also working to address the requirements of health centers on other islands. Furthermore, Nazima mentioned that full cooperation is being received for these initiatives from President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and Health Minister Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim. She added that these efforts will bring further ease and convenience to the residents of those islands.
