Gov’t launches project to upgrade schools and build new Guraidhoo school

The government has launched a major infrastructural development project to upgrade 28 schools, along with building a brand new school in Guraidhoo, Kaafu Atoll.
The projects were contracted to state-owned companies Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC), the Road Development Corporation (RDC), and the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC). A total of USD 37.3 million will be utilised for the project from the state budget.
At a ceremony held at the Ministry of Education, construction work for 29 schools was officially handed over to contractors. The scope includes building a new school in Guraidhoo, as well as the construction of 115 classrooms, 19 multipurpose halls and 219 supporting facilities.
The projects aim to strengthen the education system by providing necessary infrastructure and resources. Over the past two years, the government has already completed USD 5.84 million worth of school repairs, alongside efforts to improve teacher quality and enhance the overall education system.
