After almost three years in exile, President Nasheed has returned to Maldives today.
President Nasheed arrived with President-elect Solih who went to Sri Lanka to receive him. He was also accompanied by former first lady Laila Ali.
The first person to welcome President Nasheed was his mother and close family members. He was then welcomed by senior members of the opposition coalition including JP leader Qasim Ibrahim. In addition Vice President-elect Faisal Naseem and many parliament members were at Velana International Airport to welcome the former President.
President Nasheed is scheduled to deliver a speech today at Artificial Beach and give a press conference at 6:00 pm.
