Nasheed's support is vital for the success of the new government: Gayoom

As a leader with vision and courage, former President Mohamed Nasheed’s support is vital for the success of the forthcoming coalition government of President-elect Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, says former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom.
Following Nasheed’s return to Maldives after years in self-exile, Gayoom took to twitter to welcome him. As such, Gayoom extended his warm welcome to Nasheed, after having spent years in a “painful” self-exile abroad.
“As a leader with vision and courage, your strong support will be vital to the success of our forthcoming coalition government led by President-elect Honorable Solih” wrote Gayoom in his tweet.

Nasheed was welcomed by his supporters, as well as opposition leader Jumhooree Party’s leader Qasim Ibrahim, members of his Maldivian Democratic Party as well as family members at the Velana International Airport on Thursday afternoon.
While opposition leader Adhaalath Party’s Sheikh Imran Abdulla had also joined the welcoming event, the only opposition leader missing in the celebration was Gayoom, who represents the breakaway faction of ruling Progressive Party of the Maldives in the joint opposition coalition.
