BML implements new core banking system

Bank of Maldives (BML) has resumed services after Eid al-Fitr holidays today under a new core banking system named Temenos T24.
Riffath Mohamed, the national bank's Marketing Manager said earlier that under the new Temenos T24 system, customers will promptly receive their account numbers, upon submitting their application. However, the bank will need a duration of 5 days to activate the account, he said.
Depositing bank cheques and issuing of receipts have also been enhanced with the upgraded system, Riffath said.
BML's Operations Director Mohamed Shareef said that the shift to the new core banking system might cause difficulties to customers in the first few days of implementation.
“Regardless of the amount of training we provide, the staff will face difficulties when they first begin to use the system. I would therefore like to note that customers might face some difficulties while staff get acquainted with the system,” said Shareef.
This is BML's first major upgrade in banking software in 15 years.
