Council of PPM has voted to removed Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom the president of PPM from the party. He was removed with the consensus of the 26 members who took part in an emergency council meeting held this afternoon.
The Chief Advisor of the party President Yameen chaired the council meeting. All the members who took part in the meeting voted in favor of removing Maumoon.
The motion to remove Mauamoon was put forward MP Falaah of Inguraidhoo constituency. He said that he is putting forward the motion because while being the president of the ruling party, Maumoon is siding up with the opposition to harass the government.
Falaah said that he submitted the motion with the support of many members.
The SG of PPM, Dr.Abdullah Khaleel said that any council member can submit a motion to the council and then the council will vote to make a decision. PPM’s spokesperson Ali Arif said that usually the disciplinary committee removes members. However, this decision was taken by the council because of the respect they have for President Maumoon.
Arif said that this case will then be forwarded to the disciplinary committee and the committee will carry out the procedure of officially removing Maumoon from the party membership list. Arif said that when it is done Maumoon will lose all privileges he get as the party president.
