Discussions have been carried out among the local council members of Laamu atoll regarding waste management after collecting waste from all the islands in the atoll to Gan rather than collecting and managing waste in individual islands.
Two members from council of each island in the atoll, except Fonadhoo participated in the discussions that was initiated by council members of Gan aiming to make Laamu atoll as the cleanest atoll in the country.
The participants of the discussions decided that an effective mean to manage waste in the atoll was to characterize waste into groups and to recycle waste materials that can be utilized and to establish a mechanism to bring the waste materials to Gan and develop a system to manage them.
