Opposition coalition's presidential candidate and Hinnavaru MP Ibrahim Mohamed Solih (Ibu) has claimed that if not for corruption in the Maldives, the state budget can accommodate basic services for all islands of the archipelago.
Speaking at Haa Alif Atoll's Thuraakunu on a campaign trip, Solih stated that the state budget holds enough money for the development of the country if it is not misused.
“It is sorrowful that the current government takes on such overpriced projects. If the state budget is not misspent, it can accommodate all basic services throughout the island nation,” said Solih.
Solih further stated that the government had spent over MVR3 million on every water supply and sewerage system established in the country and claimed that the projects would be awarded for a lower price.
The Hinnavaru MP further pledged to develop the country “without theft” in an administration of the opposition. Solih also vowed to establish basic services such as health centres, water supply and sewerage systems in all islands of the nation in an opposition administration.
