Met Office Issues White Alert as Heavy Rain and Strong Winds Expected Over Weekend

The Maldives Meteorological Service has issued a white alert from Haa Alif to Dhaalu Atoll, warning of heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds over the weekend. The alert is in effect until 2:30 PM today.
According to the 24-hour forecast, northern and central atolls are expected to see widespread rainfall, with wind speeds reaching up to 40 miles per hour in cloud bands. The southern atolls may also experience unsettled weather due to the influence of the monsoon trough.
Wind speeds are forecasted to range from 10 to 20 miles per hour, blowing from the south and southwest in the affected regions. Sea conditions are expected to be moderate in the south and moderate to rough in the north and central regions, especially during periods of heavy cloud cover.
The Met Office has advised seafarers and the general public to remain cautious and to monitor the latest updates. Travellers heading to islands this weekend are urged to check weather conditions before departure to ensure safety.
