Transport Minister Targets Profitability for Island Aviation Within Two Years

Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Mohamed Ameen has announced that the government aims to make Island Aviation Services Limited (IASL), operator of the national airline Maldivian, a profitable enterprise within the next two years.
The Minister made the remarks while speaking at the inauguration of Maldivian’s new Engineering Service Building. He highlighted that the opening of the facility is a significant step toward reducing maintenance costs, enhancing operational safety, and improving service efficiency.
Minister Ameen noted that Maldivian currently provides aircraft maintenance services to several airlines operating in the Maldives. The new engineering facility is expected to streamline these operations and increase revenue-generation opportunities for the airline.
The Minister also revealed that the planning and development of the facility took nearly a decade and was only realized due to the priority given by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s administration.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to elevating Maldivian to the status of a true national carrier, capable of operating sustainably and competitively in the regional aviation market.
