Health Ministry reviewing maternal health module

Health Minister Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim states efforts are presently underway to review the ‘maternal health module’ centered on services provided during pregnancy.
The theme for this year’s World Health Day is ‘Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures’, which urges to ramp up efforts to end preventable maternal and newborn deaths, and to prioritize women’s longer-term health and well-being.
During his address to commemorate World Health Day, Minister Nazim underscored that efforts were underway to improve records of treatment and services provided to pregnant women and infants and update the information on a day-to-day basis via digital platforms.
In this regard, he detailed that the national immunization module and child, nutrition, growth and development module were being integrated into an online portal under a single network used by service providers and service monitors to update information.
“Moreover, efforts are also underway to review the maternal health module which is centered on services provided during pregnancy,” he added.
Minister Nazim said the ultimate goal was to facilitate access to healthcare records of mothers, children and the general public via ‘Maldives Integrated Health Information System’.
In his address, the Minister also called for the promotion of healthy motherhood and encouraged women to safeguard themselves against factors that could lead to infertility and stray away from behaviors that might negatively affect their health and their child's well-being.
World Health Day is annually commemorated on April 7th.
