Bids open for resort development in Kaashidhoo and Kelaa lagoons

Ministry of Tourism has announced plans to develop resorts in the lagoons of Kaafu atoll Kaashidhoo and Haa Alifu atoll Kelaa.
The project will involve the development of three resorts across two lagoon areas.
The resort in Kaashidhoo lagoon will cover an area of 10 hectares, with the minimum land acquisition cost set at USD 2.2 million (MVR 34 million).
This marks the second time the Ministry has announced the development of a resort in Kaashidhoo's lagoon.
In Kelaa lagoon, two resorts will be built, spanning a total of 12.2 hectares. For "Lagoon 1," the minimum land acquisition cost is USD 1.9 million (MVR 29 million), while for "Lagoon 2," the cost is USD 2 million (MVR 31 million).
Interested parties are required to submit their bids by June 5 for the development of these three resorts in the two lagoons.
In addition, the Ministry of Tourism had previously announced the allocation of approximately 25 islands for resort development last year, with 11 of those islands having their acquisition costs paid to the state.
A total of USD 33 million (MVR 509 million) was received from these acquisition payments.
Currently, there are 180 resorts in Maldives, which account for 70 percent of the tourism bed capacity in the country.
