A solar power system was inaugurated at Sun Siyam Olhuveli on Saturday, marking a major step toward reducing diesel dependency and embracing environmentally sustainable energy.
The project was officially launched by Hassan Adil, Assistant Group General Manager of Sun Siyam Group, and Haseeth Prematillake, Managing Director of Hayleys Solar, Sri Lanka’s leading solar EPC provider. The system was installed in partnership with Huawei, using hybrid solar technology with battery storage to enable nighttime usage.
Speaking at the ceremony, Adil said the initiative is more than just a solar installation, it represents a strategic move toward achieving the company’s long-term environmental goals.

“By 2030, we aim to convert 50 percent of Olhuveli’s energy to renewable sources,” Adil said. “From 2020 to now, 25 percent of our energy has come from generators. We must reduce diesel costs and shift to solar-powered electricity.”
He credited the resort’s engineering team for driving the transition and reaffirmed Sun Siyam’s commitment to sustainability.
Hayleys Solar’s Managing Director, Prematillake, described the project as a milestone for both companies.
“This is a huge step forward for Sun Siyam,” he said. “We’re proud to be part of this journey.”

Prematillake confirmed that a 2-megawatt solar PV system has been installed at Olhuveli, equipped with energy storage to ensure uninterrupted power supply. The system is expected to reduce over 3,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions, contributing significantly to the resort’s decarbonization efforts.
The installation reflects Sun Siyam Group’s broader vision to integrate renewable energy across its properties, aligning with global climate goals and enhancing operational efficiency.
