ECPI Shows Decline in Food Prices in November

The Maldives Bureau of Statistics has reported that basic food prices dropped by 0.69 percent in November compared to the previous month.
According to the monthly Essential Commodities Price Index (ECPI) report, overall food prices declined by 1.11 percent. However, beverage prices rose by 0.55 percent.
Within food categories, prices fell across most items. Chicken and meat prices fell by 0.04 percent, while tuna prices declined by 0.41 percent. Meanwhile, prices of fruits dropped 4.5 percent, and vegetables by 0.76 percent. Prices of eggs and dairy products fell by 0.80 percent while cooking oil and cheese prices dropped by 0.19 percent.
Fuel and gas prices also saw a decline of 0.83 percent compared to the same month last year.
ECPI tracks the prices of essential household goods. According to the Ministry of Economy and Trade, the list helps identify price trends and stabilise essential commodity prices.
