Bank of Maldives (BML) has successfully completed the ‘Mulhi Raajjeah BML ATM’ project, a landmark national initiative that brings 24/7 self-service banking to every inhabited island in the country.
The announcement was made at a ceremony held on Wednesday to commemorate the Bank’s journey. During the event, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu conferred special recognition to the project team, marking their exceptional work to complete ‘Mulhi Raajje ah BML ATM’ project in record time.
The first ATM under “Mulhi Raajje ah BML ATM” project was installed in February, and in the span of just nine months, BML rolled out ATMs to 105 islands spread across all 20 atolls. The scale and speed of the project is unprecedented in the country, and was completed through a complex, multi-stakeholder approach to ensure timely delivery to the highest standards. The cost-effective and robust implementation resulted in a 33 percent reduction in costs compared to traditional ATM installations.
BML’s CEO and Managing Director, Mohamed Shareef stated that every citizen, regardless of their location, now has access to banking services through state-of-the-art ATMs.
“The ‘Mulhi Raajje ah BML ATM’ project was driven by the needs of the people, and we are proud to have delivered it at incredible speed and efficiency. Our team’s dedication has turned this vision into a reality, supporting communities across the nation,” he said.
In testament to the transformative impact of the ‘Mulhi Raajje ah BML ATM’ project, BML has been honoured with the ‘Outstanding Achievement of the Year in Financial inclusion’ award by Qorus, a highly respected award programme for the financial sector globally. This accolade highlights the project’s significant contribution to enhancing financial accessibility for communities throughout the Maldives.
