President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has sent his condolences to Mohammad Shehbaz Sharif following the deadly fire at Gul Plaza in Karachi.
In his condolence message, President Muizzu expressed his sincere sympathies to the Prime Minister, the Government, and the people of Pakistan on behalf of the Government and people of the Maldives, as well as in his personal capacity, during this time of national grief.
The President also conveyed his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the incident.
In his message, President Muizzu wished a speedy recovery to those injured and expressed hope for the success of ongoing efforts to recover from the damage caused by the fire.
The death toll from a fire at a shopping mall in Karachi over the weekend has risen to at least 21, according to Pakistani authorities, as the search for dozens of missing people continues.
The fire broke out late on Saturday at the Gul Plaza Shopping Centre, a densely packed commercial complex. Firefighters managed to bring the massive blaze under control after about 36 hours, allowing rescue teams to enter the building to rescue those trapped inside.
