The Maldives Industrial Fishing Company (MIFCO) has announced that 96.7 per cent of the canned tuna production required for this year’s Roadha Hadhiyaa programme has been completed ahead of Ramadan.
Speaking to MMTV, MIFCO Senior Manager for Public Relations Shifza Musthafa said 115,078 cases of canned tuna have already been produced. The remaining 3,899 cases are currently in production and are expected to be finished by tomorrow.
Under the 2026 Roadha Hadhiyaa programme, the Government plans to distribute a total of 118,977 cases of canned tuna to households nationwide during Ramadan.
Shifza noted that MIFCO had initially targeted completion of sealing by the 15th of this month, but production faced minor delays due to heightened domestic market demand. She assured that all remaining cases will be ready before distribution commences.
Last Ramadan, the programme distributed 111,231 cases of canned tuna, comprising 50,519 cases for households in the Malé area and 60,712 cases for households across the atolls.
The Roadha Hadhiyaa initiative was first introduced by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu during an event marking the one-year anniversary of the Administration. In 2024, the programme provided each household with 10 kilograms of basmati rice and 10 kilograms of flour.
In addition to food assistance, the Government continues to offer electricity bill relief during Ramadan. President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that households billed at the domestic rate will receive capped electricity bills of a maximum MVR 400 for the upcoming holy month.
