Veteran Maldivian film actor and director Ahmed Nimal, who was receiving treatment at ADK Hospital after suffering a stroke, was transferred to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) on Thursday.
Nimal was taken to ADK on Wednesday evening following the stroke and had been receiving treatment in the hospital’s intensive care unit until the transfer. A source close to the family said he remains in critical condition.
Nimal, 62, is regarded as one of the most versatile figures in the Maldivian film industry, with a career spanning acting, directing, editing, writing and producing. He has directed several well‑known films, including Zalzala, Valoabi Engeynama, Khalas and others.
He is also widely respected for his acting range, having appeared in numerous lead roles as well as memorable father‑figure characters. Among his notable performances are roles in Veerana, Niuma, Mihashin Furaana Dhaandhen and Neyngi Yaaru Vakivy.
His most celebrated recent performance came in the 2023 hit film Loabi Vevijje.
Nimal’s only son, Mohamed Jumayyil, is also a prominent actor in the Maldivian film industry.
