The Australian Government has officially handed over a Guardian-class patrol vessel to the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF).
The handover ceremony was held at HMAS Stirling Naval Base in Perth, Australia, and attended by senior officials from both countries.
The vessel was first announced by Australian Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Richard Marles during his official visit to the Maldives in June 2025.
MNDF said the vessel will enhance patrolling capacity as well as strengthen capacity to deal with maritime threats and challenges. Australian officials highlighted the importance of strong bilateral ties and regional security cooperation.
The MNDF crew designated for the vessel will undergo training in Australia, while the vessel completes sea trials ahead of its delivery to the Maldives next month.
