Construction begins on Thulusdhoo hospital project

Work on the Thulusdhoo Hospital project has officially commenced.
The project is being carried out by Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC). The contract was awarded in March last year for USD 6.59 million.
The project’s scope includes the development of a 30-bed hospital with multiple components such as a 1729.10 square feet health centre block, a 238.11 square feet service block, and a 167.63 accommodation block.
According to MTCC, concrete works for pillars and foundation works for the accommodation block are underway.
The hospital’s health centre block will feature doctor consultation rooms, medical wards and private rooms, laboratory, operating theatre, delivery room, X-ray and ultrasound rooms as well as an emergency services unit and public health unit.
Thulusdhoo has a population of over 1,600. Currently, health services are provided from a 24-hour health centre. Existing services will be expanded with the new hospital. While the island has a growing tourism sector, the hospital is expected benefit both residents and visiting tourists.
