Criminal Court has issued warrants on Maldives Police Service to arrest former President Mohamed Nasheed, former Vice President Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed and Akram Kamaluddin.
Police said the arrest warrant on Nasheed was issued in connection to the ongoing investigation into the MVR 1.8 million noted in 2011 audit report and the failure to return back to Maldives after being released for medical treatment and for choosing to prioritize on personal projects instead of completing his 13-year jail term.
The arrest warrants for Dr. Jameel and Akram Kamaluddin were issued after they had failed to summon themselves to respond to cases under investigation. Police was not able hand over the chits to the two individuals. The two were given a 14-day period from August 4, 2016 but had failed to inform a reason why they had failed to abide by the notices issued.
