Nasheed will be summoned to Committee for investigations: Jabir

Jumhooree Party Vice President and Kaashidhoo MP Abdullah Jabir has said that former President Mohamed Nasheed will be summoned to the committee formed under the resolution submitted to the Parliament requesting for the investigation of the illegal activities carried out by Nasheed while he was President.
The Parliament has approved the resolution submitted by Jabir, and also made the decision to create a seven-member committee to investigate the matter. Members have not yet been appointed to the committee.
Jabir expressed confidence that the committee can carry out investigations despite obstructions which might be imposed by Maldivian Democratic Party’s (MDP) Parliamentary Group Members.
“Why can’t we do this peacefully? Are President Nasheed and his associates above the law? The National Security Force will be there to deal with those who try to obstruct the committee’s work,” Jabir said.
He said that this investigation will be completed as soon as possible, and the committee will decide on a date to complete its tasks.
The resolution against Nasheed was passed in the Parliament last Wednesday, with 38 votes in favour and 25 votes against it.
Wednesday’s meeting came to an end following heated debates in the process of appointing members to the committee.
Concluding the session, Deputy Speaker of Parliament Ahmed Nazim said that the issue of appointing members to the committee will be discussed between leaders of political parties.
Two MPs nominated members to the committee on Wednesday.
Thimarafushi MP Ahmed Shareef’s nominations were supported by Maavashu MP Abdul Azeez Jamal Abubakr. Shareef’s nominations were Dhiddhoo MP Ahmed Sameer, Fares Maathoda MP Ibrahim Mutthalib, Guraidhoo MP Ibrahim Riza, Kaashidhoo MP Abdullah Jabir, Vilimaafannu MP Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik, Vilufushi MP Riyaz Rasheed and Kin’bidhoo MP Moosa Zameer.
