Construction of a new building for the Male' Vocational High School is expected to be handed over to contractors in August, Minister of Education, Higher Education and Skills Development Dr Ismail Shafeeu has announced.
The minister made the announcement while addressing the fourth session of the High Achievers' Award 2025 ceremony.
Speaking at the event, Dr Shafeeu said higher secondary enrolment has increased significantly, with the proportion of Grade 10 students progressing to higher secondary education rising from 34% in 2023 to 48%.
He attributed the increase to education policy reforms and initiatives implemented over the past two years to raise awareness of the importance of higher secondary education. The minister described the rise in enrolment as a major achievement for both the government and the country.
Dr Shafeeu said the Male' Vocational High School was established last year and has already begun enrolling students. He added that the new building forms part of the government's efforts to expand vocational education and strengthen work-based apprenticeship opportunities.
Highlighting the long-term benefits of keeping more young people in education, the minister said every additional student who remains in school strengthens the country's human capital, empowers young people and contributes to building a more productive generation.
