PPM holds rally against Nasheed staying in the Indian High Commission

The Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has said that former President Mohamed Nasheed is in the Indian High Commission to ‘evade’ trial.
PPM said at a rally at Artificial Beach held last night to defend the constitution and the justice system, that it should be possible to conduct trials against all citizens.
PPM members who spoke at the rally said that Nasheed should be brought to justice and that he should not be allowed to hide.
PPM also called on the Elections Commission to dissolve Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), which they claimed is a ‘terrorism party’.
The rally was attended by fewer people than usual.
PPM Vice President Ahmed Adheeb said that PPM would not hesitate to hold street protests when necessary.
Nasheed took refuge in the Indian High Commission on 13 February following efforts by the police to implement a court order to arrest him and take him to court for the trial regarding the arrest of Chief Judge of Criminal Court Abdullah Mohamed during Nasheed’s presidency.
