Economic Minister to face confidence vote

Speaking at the Progressive Party of Maldivese (PPM) office today, Villufushi MP Riyaz Rasheed said the decision was made as Razi signed the agreement that allows GMR to unlawfully tax passengers. "Certain clauses in the agreement signed between GMR and the government conflict with the constitution and regulations and the fact has been proven with the Civil Court verdict on the same matter last week," he said. Riyaz said the chief opposition Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP) has also confirmed their participation in the motion. The statement signed by the MPs said Razi should be held responsible for signing an agreement that violates the rights of the citizens. "... with the belief that the Minister of Economic Development Mahmood Razi must take responsibility for signing such an agreement and that he is not liable to hold such a position of responsibility under Article 177 of the constitution, a no-confidence motion is proposed against him," the statement reads. The opposition parliamentary group comprises of MPs from the Dhivehi Qaumee Party (DQP), Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and independent MPs.
