President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has merged the Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy and Ministry of Tourism, and appointed Thoriq Ibrahim as Minister.
With the merger, the Ministry is now called the Ministry of Tourism and Environment.
President Muizzu presented the letter of appointment to Minister Thoriq in a ceremony held at the President's Office today.
Until now, Thoriq served as the Minister of Climate Change, Environment and Energy.
The changes have come after Ibrahim Faisal was dismissed from his position as Minister of Tourism on January 28. The government has still not revealed the reasons behind Faisal's dismissal.
With the merger of these two ministries, there are now 19 ministries in this administration.
