PSM News Wins Public Trust Following Years of Steady Expansion, Says President Gayoom

Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has hailed PSM News for its rapid emergence as a trusted news source, describing its progress as remarkable. His remarks were conveyed in a special statement commemorating the channel's eighth anniversary.
Congratulating the staff on the milestone, President Gayoom highlighted their dedication and contribution to the country's media landscape. He noted that PSM News, a subsidiary of Public Service Media (PSM)—the Maldives' oldest broadcasting institution—has maintained uninterrupted 24-hour news coverage since its inception eight years ago. This, he characterised, as a significant achievement, underscoring the channel's success in cultivating public confidence in a relatively short timeframe.
Reflecting on the newsroom's efforts, President Gayoom stated, "Through your courage and dedication, PSM News has established itself as one of the most trusted media channels in the Maldives, standing at the forefront of the industry."
He continued, acknowledging the individual contributions of the team: "Each of you has been instrumental in this success." Looking ahead, he urged the staff to "continue striving for even greater excellence and work towards further progress." He concluded his remarks by offering prayers for divine blessings upon their service to the nation.
PSM News, launched on 3 May 2017, was the first dedicated news channel in the Maldives to introduce round-the-clock broadcasting. Since its establishment, it has operated without interruption, cementing its status as the longest-running newsroom in the country. Initially a division within Television Maldives (TVM), PSM News later became an independent entity, continuing to expand its reach. Today, the channel remains committed to delivering timely, accurate, and reliable news coverage while adapting to the evolving national media landscape.
