Greater Bay Airlines has launched direct flights between Hong Kong and the Maldives, marking a new addition to the growing connectivity between the two destinations.
The airline’s inaugural flight landed at Velana International Airport (VIA) this week, where arriving passengers were welcomed with red roses and gift packs. Greater Bay Airlines will operate daily flights on a Boeing 737‑800 until the 25th of this month.
The launch comes as tourist arrivals from China continue to surge. China has reclaimed its position as the Maldives’ top source market, with more than 35,000 arrivals recorded as of Saturday. Last year, the Maldives welcomed 329,286 visitors from China, making it the leading market for 2024.
