"This govt. hopes to be judged not on talk، but on actions" – Foreign Minister

The current government hopes to be judged not on talk، but on actions، says Minister of Foreign Affairs Ms. Dunya Maumoon.
On an article published on the Globe and Mail، Minister Dunya noted that the Government has undertaken many ventures due to the climate change، including  the promotion and encouraging of the development of ecological and fully eco-powered tourist resorts in Maldives.
She noted that Paris agreement has been signed and it is time to deliver and take actions on it. Also noting that Paris talks was ‘constructive’، Minister said that Paris agreement has brought relief to small island states like Maldives، after the failure at the Copenhagen summit.
“We are running out of time: The oceans are rising، and without direct and immediate international action، our nation may not exist in a matter of decades.”
Furthermore، Minister Dunya noted that small island states cannot combat the issue alone. thus requiring assistance from the rich industrialized nations and large developing states.
“Last week، our parliament voted to ratify the historic Paris agreement،” Minister highlighted، urging international partners، large and small، to complete the domestic ratification process for the treaty.
Noting the Paris agreement is only the beginning of an urgent rescue mission that needs to be launched by the community of nations for small states such as the Maldives، Minister said the previous government in Maldives “made promises about climate change، but did nothing”.
“But there is still only so much we can do ourselves as a tiny nation of just over 300،000 people. Fortunately، the rest of the world is clearly waking up to the need for action.”
In addition، Foreign Minister Dunya Maumoon noted that the Maldives is ‘already in fifth gear’، and will not be reluctant to take any necessary measures due to climatic changes.
