President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the wisdom, foresight, and enduring legacy of Dhonbandaarain continue to live on in the Maldives, nearly three centuries after the historic national liebration.
The President made these remarks in a message shared on his official X account on the occasion of Huravee Day. In his message, the President reflected on the sombre events that culminated in the battle to liberate the nation from foreign occupation 281 years ago. He recalled the resistance against the treachery that saw multiple areas of Malé set ablaze, the monarch of the time abducted, and the Maldivian people subjected to grave suffering.
The President concluded his message by conveying Huravee Day greetings to the people of the Maldives and offering prayers to Almighty Allah for the nation’s continued prosperity, stability, and progress.
First Lady Sajidha Mohamed also shared a message on the occasion. Extending her greetings to the Maldivian people, she expressed profound gratitude for the immense national sacrifice made by Dhonbandaarain, emphasising its profound significance in shaping the nation’s identity.
Huravee Day is observed annually in the Maldives on the third day of Jumad al-Akhirah. It is commemorated to rekindle the spirit of courage, strengthen patriotism, and reaffirm unwavering pride and resilience in safeguarding the Maldivian people’s national identity and sovereignty of the nation.
