A youth was arrested with drugs from Hulhumale’ on Saturday after attempting to hide the drugs and flee from the Police.
The suspect has been identified as an 18-year-old Maldivian man.
The Police said he was arrested on Saturday after attempting to hide something upon seeing police officers patrolling the roads of Hulhumale’.
In this regard, the Police detailed that the suspect was ordered after officers noticed him attempting to hide something. However, the suspect defied the orders and carried on, before he was stopped near Nirolhu Magu bus stop.
He was subsequently searched, during which the Police discovered substances suspected to be drugs inside an empty film roll case, weighing 31.23 grams.
The suspect has been remanded in custody for 30 days upon presentation before the court.
The case is under further investigation by the Police.
Drug abuse remains one of the most prominent social issues in the Maldives with 1,770 such cases reported to authorities so far this year.
