Adam Abdul Rahman, widely known as Utheemu Adhambe, has been appointed as a Special Advisor to the Ministry of Dhivehi Language, Culture, and Heritage. The appointment, made at the State Minister level, took effect yesterday.
A respected literary figure and long-serving government official, Adhambe dedicated 42 years of service to the state. He previously served as the Atoll Chief of Haa Alifu, Nazir of atoll educational institutions, and Director of Utheemu Ganduvaru, among other senior roles. Beyond his administrative career, he is celebrated as a writer, eloquent speaker, and contributor to Maldivian literature.
His contributions have been recognized with multiple national honors. He received the National Award of Encouragement in Public Service (Poetry) in 2004, the National Award of Honour in Dhivehi Language and Literature in 2016, and earlier this year, the esteemed Nishaan Dhiyamigili Izzath.
At present, the ministry employs four other Special Advisors earning MVR 20,000: Abdulla Sadiq (Saadube), Shahid Haleem, Abbas Ibrahim, and Abdulla Rasheed Hussain. The ministry also hosts a significant number of political appointees and contract employees.
Adhambe’s appointment comes at a time when several individuals are also serving the ministry as “Dhivehi Qaumiyyathuge Isvaru,” tasked with promoting and researching Maldivian heritage, culture, and language.
