The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has announced that the theory test for land vehicle driving licenses will now be conducted directly by the ministry, effective March 6, 2025.
According to the ministry’s announcement, all theory examinations for driving licenses will take place at the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation under its direct supervision. Applicants registering for the test in the Greater Malé Region through the Savaaree Information Management System (SIMS) must now select the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation as their designated examination center.
Previously, the Polytechnic was responsible for conducting the test. However, this change centralizes the licensing process under government oversight.
In addition to the theory test, applicants must also pass a practical driving test to obtain a land vehicle license. The ministry has assured that the transition will be smooth and efficiently managed to maintain high standards in driving assessments.
