POLCO CEO Suspended Amid No-Confidence Motion

Ahmed Anees, CEO of the Police Welfare Corporation (POLCO), has been suspended following a no-confidence motion submitted to the corporation’s board. According to police sources, the decision to relieve him of his responsibilities was made during a POLCO board meeting held last Sunday.
Following the suspension, the board has assigned Ibrahim Haleel, POLCO’s Secretary, to oversee the corporation’s daily operations until the case is resolved.
POLCO has been accused of corruption in the construction of three police tower buildings as part of the first phase of the Hulhumalé development project. The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) had already launched an investigation into the matter prior to Anees' suspension.
