Maldives and Singapore Sign Three Agreements to Enhance Bilateral Cooperation

The Maldives and Singapore have signed three memorandums of understanding (MoUs) aimed at strengthening cooperation in the areas of higher education, educational policy, environmental sustainability, technical cooperation, and capacity building.
The agreements were formalized during President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s official visit to Singapore, made at the invitation of Singaporean President Tharman Shanmugaratnam. President Muizzu also held bilateral meetings with both President Tharman and Prime Minister Lawrence Wong.
Following discussions with Prime Minister Wong, MoUs were signed in the presence of high-level representatives from both countries.
The MoU on higher education, educational policy, and technical cooperation was signed by Maldives’ Minister of Higher Education Dr. Ali Haider and ITE Education Services Chief Executive Go Mong Song on behalf of Singapore.
In the area of capacity building, the agreement was signed by Maldives’ Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid and Singapore’s Foreign Minister Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan.
On environmental cooperation, the MoU was signed by Maldives’ Minister of Climate Change, Environment and Energy Thoriq Ibrahim, with Singapore’s Minister for Sustainability and the Environment Grace Fu signing on behalf of her government.
In a statement issued following the meetings, President Muizzu described the discussions with Singaporean leaders as highly productive and expressed optimism that the newly signed agreements would further strengthen bilateral ties and deliver mutual benefits to the people of both nations.
The visit underscores the Maldives’ commitment to fostering international partnerships that contribute to national development and regional collaboration.
