President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Dr Mohamed Mahid Shareef as the President’s Office Principal Secretary to the President on the Citizens' Complaints Bureau. He was appointed to the ministerial-level position on 18 May 2026.
Dr Mahid has previously served in various Government roles, including as Permanent Secretary at several ministries and Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the Islamic University of Maldives. At the time of his appointment, he was serving as Chief Executive Officer of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of the Maldives. Dr Mahid holds a Doctor of Business Administration and a Master’s degree in Public Sector Management.
The Citizens' Complaints bureau was established to ensure the Government remains aware of public concerns and responds accordingly. The Bureau will operate round the clock under the President’s Office. President Dr Muizzu announced the decision to establish the bureau during the Presidential Address to the People's Majlis on 5 February this year.
A key function of the bureau is the systematic handling of public complaints through a digital framework, ensuring grievances submitted through various channels are efficiently tracked and addressed. This includes coordinating with relevant Government agencies to obtain necessary information and respond to complaints. As part of its services, the bureau will also establish a 24-hour call centre.
