HRCM condemns ‘disrespectful actions’ against Nasheed

Human Rights Commission of Maldives (HRCM) has condemned the way Police handled former President Mohamed Nasheed while bringing him to the hearing، and said they ‘handled the situation with disrespect’.
On a statement released today، HRCM said they are currently probing the abuse of power and the disrespect shown by the Police while they brought Nasheed to the hearing on Monday.
Condemning the terrible act، HRCM urged all the concerning authorities to immediately treat any injuries to Nasheed and grant him all the security and safety stated in the Constitution and laws.
In addition، HRCM had urged the relevant authorities to allow Mohamed Nasheed to appoint a defence attorney.
Meanwhile، Criminal Court on Monday had granted Nasheed a three-day period to find a defence attorney، and remanded him in a detention centre allocated by the Home Ministry.
