Former State Minister at the Islamic Ministry, Sheikh Mohamed Didi has said that laws are made by the government to further oppress the people.
Sheikh Mohamed Didi made this remark speaking at the “Maldivians against tyranny” rally held at Villimale’ last night.
He said that all laws that the government had made so far was to usurp more money from the people and to criminalize the people.
He said that the government of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom is moving towards despotism and dictatorship. He said that nothing good will come out of a government whose destination is oppression.
Sheikh Mohamed Didi stressed that the government instead of governing as per democracy are trying to unite all the three powers of state. He said that this is the onset of a dictatorship.
He said that the government now wants to spread fear and terror among the people to enslave them. He said that this is so that there is nothing that can be done against whatever the government does.
“If anyone stands up against their oppression they will prosecute him under some law they made and will claim that he opposed the law,” he said.
Sheikh Mohamed Didi reiterated that oppression and tyranny will not last regardless how the government wants it to. “It will eventually come to an end. It is a right of all people to come out and stand up against the tyranny of the government and bring an end to it. It is a national and a religious obligation to participate in the 1st May mass protest,” he said.
