22 January 2015, Male’:Ambassador of the Republic of Maldives to the People’s Republic of China H E Dr. Mohamed Faisal presented his Letter of Credence to the President of the People’s Republic of China, H.E. Mr. Xi Jinping today at ceremony held at the Great Hall of the People.
During the meeting held after the presentation ceremony, President Xi noted the close and cordial relations that exist between Maldives and China and recalled the successful visit made by President Yameen Abdul Gayoom to China and President Xi’s own visit to the Maldives recently. President Xi noted that the exchange of visits has raised the relationship between the Maldives and China to a higher level and highlighted the many important initiatives and projects begun since then. The President particularly noted the China-Maldives Friendship Bridge project and the airport project and said that he was closely following the progress of both projects. Highlighting the recent water crisis in Male’, President Xi reaffirmed China’s readiness to support and assist Maldives at all times.
In his remarks, Ambassador Faisal conveyed warm greetings from President Yameen to President Xi Jinping, and expressed appreciation to President Xi for the generous support and assistance provided to the Maldives, particularly during the water crisis. The Ambassador also noted the important ongoing projects under assistance of the Chinese Government and thanked the President for his close attention and interest in enhancing China – Maldives relations. Ambassador Faisal also expressed his determination and deep desire to work closely with the officials of President’s Xi’s government to enhance and take Maldives-China relations to a new level during his tenure Ambssador Faisal is the third Maldivian Ambassador accredited to China.
