President calls on Maldivian students to adhere to Islam and Maldivian identity

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has called on Maldivian students studying abroad to adhere to the tenets of Islam and core Maldivian values.
The President made this appeal in his address at the meeting with the Maldivian community living in Malaysia this evening.
In his address, the President appealed to Maldivian students to adhere to the tenets of Islam and to hold steadfast to Maldivian values. He noted that it was quite easy for Maldivian youth to abandon those values, reminding that there was no real happiness to be sought away from Islam and Islamic values.
The President further encouraged students to pursue academic excellence, noting that the result of such hard work is a reflection on themselves, their families and nation.
He also called on Maldivian families to foster a strong sense of community among themselves, while living far away from the Maldives.
The President said that the responsibility of the State was to ensure that all Maldivians, irrespective of where they reside, were accorded same treatment. In this regard, the President inaugurated ID card and e-Passport services as well as the Maldivian Students Association-Malaysia.
He further announced that, starting next year, to facilitate additional services to the Maldivian students, the Government would deposit US$ 3,000 in Malaysian ringgits to the Student Association. He also added that the Consular services provided will be further expanded.
Former President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan, his spouse Madam Ilham Hussain, members of the Maldivian delegation, and many Maldivian families and students attended the meeting.
