Maldivian Boosts Funadhoo Airport Connectivity with Four Weekly Flights

The national airline, Maldivian, has announced a significant increase in its flight frequency to Funadhoo Airport in Shaviyani Atoll, effective immediately.
The expansion is set to boost accessibility and travel convenience for residents and visitors of the northern region.
Speaking to PSM regarding the operational upgrade, Maldivian confirmed that it will now operate four scheduled flights a week to Funadhoo Airport, increasing service from the previous three weekly flights. The revised schedule now includes flights every Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, ensuring consistent coverage across the week. Previously, flights operated only on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
The Funadhoo Airport, which officially opened its doors in February 2020, is a key piece of infrastructure designed to bolster domestic connectivity across the Maldives. The development project, undertaken by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), required extensive land reclamation, involving the dredging of 40 hectares of land. The operational capacity of the airport is supported by a robust design, featuring a 1200-metre long and 30-metre wide runway. The facility also includes a 90-metre taxiway and a 50-metre apron, capabilities that readily accommodate the newly increased frequency of Maldivian’s domestic operations.
