250 flats set aside for newlyweds, 100 for single parents

The Housing Ministry has announced that 250 flats will be set aside for newlyweds and young families, and another 100 flats for single parents under the government’s new housing policy.
The government on Sunday night launched its new housing policy ‘Housing for All’, pledging to issue 7,500 flats and 15,000 plots of land.
The policy lists 13 priority categories for housing. This includes 250 flats for newlyweds and young families, 100 flats for single parents with children aged under 18, 100 flats for persons with disabilities, 50 for people registered as poor, and 300 flats for people who received award letters but failed to receive flats under Veshi Fahi and Hiyaa projects.
It also includes 300 flats for employees of 26 different state institutions, including the President’s Office, and the Parliament.
According to Housing Minister Dr. Abdulla Muthalib, the government plans to run a number of housing initiatives in the future. This includes ones for the upper-class, affordable housing schemes for the middle-class, and rent-to-own schemes.
The scheme is for registered residents of the greater Male’ area, and the flats and land plots will be issued from Rasmale’.
Applications will be open from January 4 to March 3 through the Hiyaavehi portal.
