A young man was detained from the Velana International Airport (VIA) on Monday, after he arrived from overseas with drugs hidden inside his body.
According to the police, Muheen Ibrahim Didi, 35, Alivaa, Miskiymagu, Fuvahmulah City, was arrested upon arrival from overseas on suspicion of smuggling drugs into the Maldives.
Muheen was presented before a judge at the Criminal Court on Monday.
According to the court document, police said that Muheen expelled the drugs “from his mouth.”
The police have said that the quantity of drugs found in his body meets the threshold for trafficking charges.
The court remanded him in custody of the police for an initial five days, after he asked for a public defender.
The case is under further investigation by the police.
