Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Abdulla Khaleel has called for Israeli leaders to be held accountable for genocide and war crimes against Palestinian Muslims.
His strong remarks, shared on social media, follow his attendance at the High-level International Conference on the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, in New York.
In his post, Minister Dr Khaleel affirmed the Maldives' unwavering commitment to advocating for the Palestinian people. He asserted that this United Nations conference sent a clear message to establish justice and security for Palestinians and uphold international law.
Minister Dr Khaleel further stated that the international community now recognises the need to hold Israel and its leaders accountable for genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity.
The high-level UN conference on the question of Palestine, which the Minister attended, took place on Monday. The meeting was co-chaired by Saudi Arabia and France, serving as a significant platform for international discourse on the ongoing crisis in the region.
The minister's comments come amidst escalating hostilities in Gaza. Since October 7, 2023, Israel has carrying out attacks on Gaza city, with no regard to the safety of innocent civilians. The ongoing onslaught have reportedly resulted in the deaths of more than 65,000 people, with severe restrictions on the entry of food and aid exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the besieged territory.
