Kamadhoo launches local beach and waterpark developed for the community

A new local beach and waterpark named “Kaani Beach” has opened in B. Kamadhoo, offering a wide range of facilities for visitors of all ages.
Kamadhoo Council President Hassan Zareer told Sun on Monday evening that the beach and waterpark were developed to include all services typically available at a public beach.
Zareer said the area has been equipped with chairs, tables, benches, hammocks and huts, ensuring comfort for all age groups. He added that special barbecue areas will be arranged, and a fish farm is also planned as part of the development.
Swimming facilities have been established at the beach, while a dedicated waterpark for children has been built to enhance recreational options for families.
According to Zareer, the beach development cost around MVR 1 million, with the council spending between MVR 400,000 and MVR 2 million from its budget on the project.
“We found that local tourism on this island had boomed and a tourist beach had been allocated. But when we took office and discussed the five‑year development plan with the people, we realised there was no designated place for the community,” he said.
He said the idea of developing a local beach for residents emerged from those discussions.
Zareer noted that the project was completed during the current council term, which began in May 2021.
Highlighting the island’s growing popularity, he said around 300 guests visited Kamadhoo last week, adding that the opening of the new beach and waterpark is expected to further boost the island’s income.
