MDP holds rally calling to release Nasheed

The opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has held a rally on Friday evening to call for the immediate release of former president Mohamed Nasheed، who has been sentenced to 13 years in prison for ‘abducting’ criminal court chief judge Abdulla ‘Gaazee’ Mohamed in 2012.
The protest، lead by deputy president of the party، Mohamed Shifaz، was attended by party’s parliamentary group members and general members in capital Male’.
The protesters have called on the government to adhere to the opinion of the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention، and also called for the immediate release of former president.
The protesters also called for the release of former defence minister Colonel Rtd. Mohamed Nazim، Adhaalath leader Sheikh Imran Abdulla.
The rally was concluded with a special prayer.
