Nasheed’s sentence appealed in High Court

The Prosecutor General’s Office of the Maldives has appealed the prison sentence on former President Mohamed Nasheed، in High Court.
Though the appeal case has been filed at High Court on Wednesday morning، it is not confirmed if the court has accepted the case.
On a statement earlier، PG Office said the prison sentence on ex-President Nasheed was to be appealed as many are raising questions on the trial process.
PG Office further said the sentence was being appealed as the legal team of Nasheed had highlighted that Nasheed was barred from his rights during trial، no adequate time was provided to prepare for the case and no documents were provided by the court for appeal process.
PG Office is appealing the sentence in High Court by the authority granted under Article 222 (i) of the Constitution.
