Former president Mohamed Nasheed does not wish any harm on the people of the Maldives، including the imposing of sanctions against the Maldives، says Vice Speaker of the People’s Majlis، MP for Hulhuhenveyru، Moosa Manik.
Former chairperson of opposition MDP، MP Moosa made the remarks while speaking at the debate on the committee report for the Bill on Amendment to the Clemency Act، held at today’s Majlis sitting.
Moosa said that the current leadership of the MDP do not put in efforts to free the former president Nasheed، but rather، they ‘are tainting his name’، He said that although he worked closely and loyally with former president، he has been dismissed from the party.
Furthermore، MP Moosa said that they sought help from international community after MDP government was overthrown by a coup، and MDP never received the assistance.
“[..] it is not believable that those same people who said would help and did not، will extend any assistance now،” Moosa said.
In addition، MP Moosa said the current leadership of MDP is working closely with the same people who ‘overthrew the MDP government in 2012 in a coup’.
Meanwhile، former president’s lawyers have announced that they will push the international community to enforce resolutions and impose sanctions against the Maldives، if the government does not release Nasheed.
